Why a high quality soil is so important

No matter, whether your plants are in the garden or in containers, on the balcony or the windowsill - it is essential to select a good soil for their healthy and natural development. The reason is that the soil not only allows the roots to take hold, but is also the basis for optimal plant growth and has to provide the plant with water, air and nutrients in the right form and at the right time.

In pots, containers and window boxes the quality of the soil is particularly important, because here the plants have only limited space for their roots. This is exactly, why plants should also be repotted regularly. The reason is that, when plants grow above ground, the roots need more space as well to take up more nutrients and water. Then, slowly but surely, the old pot will become too small. Furthermore, as time goes by harmful salts will deposit, which cannot be washed out even with intensive watering.

But the 'natural' surroundings of your own garden often do not provide ideal soil conditions either. The soil is either too light or too heavy. Nor is the 'chemistry' - that is the pH and nutritional content - of the soil always right. In order to give your garden plants the best possible start in life, you should use a high quality plant soil. This will improve the existing soil substantially. The ideal soil for garden plants is loose and rich in humus - it has micro-organisms, which ensure perfect biological conditions; it is rich in nutrients and retains them well.
