To guarantee security of delivery and flexibility also during the highest seasonal peaks, optimizing the supply chain is one of the key challenges at Floragard. Processes that are continually supported by IT ensure the organisation of the entire transport chain as well as transparency in the operating sequence with shipping and plant logistics. The marketing of peat and ready-to-use soil products for professional gardening and the hobby area is characterised by a very seasonal business. Between February and May, about 60% of sales are generated with soils. During this timeframe, about 400 to 500 trucks, containers or wagons are loaded and transported to the customers every day.
By taking into account stock levels, production capacities and transport costs, orders are allocated to the 42 shareholder and partner plants. The optimal plant allocation is determined for every order – by considering all respective requirement and costs. This is made possible by centrally managed production planning and individual customer delivery.
